Toowoomba earned the name Garden City off the back of the rich, red-brown volcanic basalt soil that sits under most of the city at around 700m up the Great Dividing Range. It's the same soil that carries the show gardens through every September's Carnival of Flowers, and it rewards a garden that's actually looked after — regular hedging, pruning, weeding and mulching rather than an occasional tidy up. Our operators handle all of it, from $70 for a basic visit.
The basalt holds nutrients and moisture well, which is a gift for planting but can turn heavy and slow to drain after rain, so timing matters: hard pruning and structural work before the spring flush, mulch topped up before the dry stretches of winter, and beds cleared before an overgrown corner turns into a bigger job. Pre-sale tidy ups, end-of-lease clean ups and regular seasonal care are all part of the service.
